Don’t get me wrong, freebies can still work...“Value content” can still work...But both strategies are just not for me. Instead, I sell books to bring new customers into my businesses.
Why do I prefer this method?
I like selling a book because books bring in buyers. Buyers are likely to buy again because they’ve proven that they are willing to spend money to solve a problem they have.
My business is selling a coaching program, consulting services, and a done-for-you service.
I help business owners write and sell a book so they can bring more customers and clients into their business. That’s my business. The book is just a tool I use to bring in prospective clients. Because I use a book to bring prospects into my business, my sales process is simplified and more effective. Think about it...Who would you rather talk to when it comes to having a sales conversation about an offer or service:
A ) Someone who has purchased something from you, spent many hours consuming your lessons and material and knows exactly what offers you have available before they hop on a call? Or,
B ) Someone who joined your list looking for free tips, read a short PDF or watched a 90-minute video, doesn’t really know who you are but is desperate for help, and has never proven to you that they are willing to spend money?I’m picking “A” every time.
By using a book instead of free content, a video training, or freebie lead magnets, I’ve put a protective moat around my business where I only interact with paying customers. My team only takes calls from people who have already paid us money. We only sell high ticket packages to people who have already seen results from our book. Sales resistance is non-existent in my world. We only talk with people who are ready to buy.
That’s an advantage I like to have.
Because book sales cover marketing expenses, we’re able to bring new clients into our premium programs and services at no cost. Our books typically maintain 1.75x - 2.50x return on ad spend (before premium sales) so that when $1 goes into our “marketing machine” $1.75 or more immediately comes out.
We often see a predictable 7-8x return on ad spend within 30 days of launch thanks to sales of premium offers.
