The Upgrade course provides candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and facilitate swim lessons in accordance with the standards. However, candidates for the Upgrade course need to have been certified swim instructors from another recognized program.

Pre-requisites:
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification or that with another recognized swim teaching certification.

This course provides candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and facilitate as a Conductor. The Conductors are able to teach most of the other courses in accordance with the standards.

RENEWING YOUR Authorization hrs vary
This is an extremely flexible process tailored to meet the needs of THE SWIM ACADEMY The Swim Academy Teachers and Teacher Course Conductors. Teachers & TCC‟s are encouraged to participate in ongoing continuing education programs including, but not limited to; stroke clinics, on-line education modules, individual mentoring sessions, reading updated material on THE SWIM ACADEMY Swimming Skills programs. .

THE SWIM ACADEMY The Swim Academy will also recognize other types of continuing education including:

leadership training, facilitation workshops etc.

Each year THE SWIM ACADEMY The Swim Academy Teachers & Teacher Course Conductors must renew their annual membership with the Canadian Swim Coaches & Teachers Association in order to stay current.





RENEWING YOUR CERTIFICATION

There are no scheduled re-certification courses for THE SWIM ACADEMY The Swim Academy Teachers and Teacher Course Conductors. Instead, we have created a program of ongoing professional development.

All THE SWIM ACADEMY and & TCCs must should maintain a current membership with their National Aquatics Trainer and provider,

Teaching I Can Swim is a course of 18 to 20 hours with both online and in-person sessions.

Candidates spend an hour of classroom lecture learning the basics of teaching swimming lessons, lesson planning and leadership. They will then spend time in the pool assisting a certified Teacher with a swim class.

Pre-requisites:
Age 13 years and older.

Swimming skills is at stage 3 or equivalent.

This program allows candidates to explore the option of teaching swimming lessons.

With a large focus on the development of youth leadership this program will provide candidates the opportunity to grow and develop into mature individuals. Much of the program content will teach candidates how to use tools learned in everyday life. This program is not a pre-requisite for the Full Teacher Course.
